OK... I just couldn't wait till Friday for my "show and tell". Here's our new babies. They are incredible. It is so amazing to think that just 2 days ago these little girls and boys were in a shell.

This is our first year for ducks and they are lots of fun to watch. They do love the water. They walk around and around the waterer with their little beaks stuck in and then track the water all over their brooder. It's tough keeping them dry like the book said, but at 90 degrees, they probably won't get too chilled. I think I'd be ready for a little dip too.

The chicks are kept at 95 degrees which seem so warm, but it is to simulate the temperature under Mom's soft belly feathers. In the future we hope the only chicks we will need to replenish each year will be the Cornish Cross Giants (meat birds) since they don't have opportunity to reproduce. We have had hens who hatched batches of chicks before, but some escaped through the holes in the yard fence and were comsumed (we assume) my our stray cat. The kitty we have now doesn't seem too interested in the chick, but I'm sure given the opportunity she'd have dinner too.

Well, being Mom to all these little ones has brought out my maternal instincts. I want to check on them all the time. The minute I get home, just before bed, and just before I leave for work. I change bedding and water and feed and pick them up and cuddle them... of course not all of them at once since there are 42 chicks and 12 ducks. It's fun now, but when they get to the chicken coop there all Mr. Doug's responsibility. I don't care that much about them when they get to that stage.

More updates coming soon.

A little thought to share with you...

Psalm 64:10

The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.

Let our glorying be in the Lord who has given us our precious salvation. When I see the world around me and feel their hopelessness, I think of how things used to be. If it were not for the grace of God how lost I would still be. I can't imagine facing the changes that are occurring in the world without knowing the one who controls all things. Yes it is hard not knowing what is ahead and Christians are not immune to suffering, but we do have the Lord to lean on through the tough times. It makes me even more eager to see my friends and coworkers and family members know who God is too.

Hope you have a happy day.

God Bless ya!

The little duckies are so cute! We had some one time and I used to love watching the little boogers swim around. :)
I appreciate the "thought" at the end of your post too. I was especially encouraged reading the verse....I needed that today.
So glad you stopped by my blog and commented. I'll be back! :)
