Back on Track: Baby Steps

I love this picture off a friend's recent post... reminds me of just how I feel today!

Well here we are again… another raining cold morning.
I have done OK this week. Not spectacular, but then again this is a new lifestyle for me and it took me 50+ years to get into this disarray, it will probably take more that 2 weeks to get rid of some of these bad habits.

Bible Reading:
I am still having my regular devotions, but my chronological reading is going slowly. I read a little of Genesis 10, but want to go back into the story of the flood and take some notes for Sunday School since I will soon be using this section of scripture to teach from. I have progressed, but at this rate it might take me the rest of my life and then some to finish! Reading the Bible is not the same as reading a novel.. The Bible is so full of truths and there are new things that pop out no matter how many times you read it.

Diet and Exercise:
Monday I got lots of exercise we walked all around the places where we stopped and then Tuesday I walked to work from the bus stop. I’ve been eating well except Sunday. I usually don’t have trouble eating healthy until it comes to eating the wonderful things that the ladies at church make for church dinner.
My weight problems stem from eating too much of a good thing and eating supper too late and a job where there is very little exercise. I need to work on that schedule some more.

Menu Planning:
Yesterday we got spinach, mushrooms, 2 cases of green beans, and a big bag of garlic. Most of the garlic will be peeled and frozen for the chickens. We put garlic in their water to help repel bugs and to keep the diseases down. We’ll use some for our own cooking too.

  • Wednesday: Left overs plus spinach (I might be able to put some stew beans on as well so Doug will have some lunch stuff this week).
  • Thursday: Roasted Chicken and steamed green beans
  • Friday: Chicken soup and whole wheat biscuits
  • Saturday: Roast Corn and Steak on the grill
  • Sunday: Stir fry (mushroom, onion, and peppers) and Roast whole chicken
  • Monday: Steamed spinach and onions, left over chicken
  • Tuesday: Leftover surprise and chicken soup (we might get some yummy stuff today, so who knows what will actually be on this menu)
You probably have noticed that chicken is on our menu quite often. Chicken is Mr. Doug’s favorite and he never seems to get tired of it. We raise meat birds and one chicken could possibly last us for 2-3 days.

Rest:
I am dragging today. Of course our day off which ended late and then the early start on Tuesday didn’t help much. Last night I got 7 hours of sleep so should be recovering, but caffeine will be on my menu today. I have been keeping my mind busy during the down times today by adding to this post. Hope you don’t get sick of reading.

Psalm 147:5
Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

Good for you, Mrs. Doug!!! Keep up the good work! I am living proof that better eating habits and regular exercise do make a difference over time. They do eventually become a lifestyle, so keep on keeping on!

God bless,
