Wonderful Weekend

We had a wonderful week-end. Saturday wasn't all that fun, but was a day to thank the Lord for. They all are, right?

Mr. Doug was moving that chicken coop into it's home down by the garden. All the time he was building it I was worried it would be too heavy. He doesn't see it the same. Not sure why, but he seems to gravitate toward building heavy. He put lots of metal roofing and siding and other stuff that would not be found in a camper framework... anyway... he got it down to the greenhouse and could not get it up over the rise to the spot where he wanted it. I could not watch. I stayed away the whole time he was working on that because I just didn't want to watch. It was too scary.

So Saturday it rained and rained. The sun would come out and you'd think it was going to clear up and then 5 minutes later it would pour. This made it very muddy down by the garden and try as he would that chicken coop would not go into place. The truck could not get any traction. The chicken coop was right in the middle of the driveway so that we could not get the car up or down.

We had trouble with the toilet in the camper and so worked on that. A layer of calcium deposit from the water had coated the workings inside... camper toilets are not normal... the water sits for a day in there. So we added vinegar and got that cleaned out after much mud was deposited on the bathroom and bedroom floor.

I felt like the whole day I was just catching up and doing damage control. My bread wouldn't rise, probably due to weather. Finally at about 10:30 pm I baked the bread. But even in all this there were things to thank the Lord for.

The toilet wasn't broken and didn't need to be replaced as originally thought. It was relatively easy (though smelly and dirty) to fix.

The chicken coop did not tip over in all Mr. Doug's trying to get it over the hill.

We had the car below the coop so we could get out and go when needed for those 2 days the driveway was blocked.

I was able to get some of the laundry done despite the rain.

It was a good day and we got many things done. Maybe not as much as we thought we should, but God knows how much was supposed to be done on that particular day.

Then there was Sunday. A glorious day, not only because it was the Lord's Day, but the weather was picture perfect. We had a cookout after church with all the church folk. We ate, and ate, and the children played games, and sang and sang some more, and had a testimony time. It was a little breezy, but in this part of the world that is a good thing because it keeps the bugs away.

We got home about 3 pm and Mr. Doug was able to get the chicken coop up over the hill and I was able to finish the laundry.

Then there was Monday. I had the day off work due to the holiday. We decided we needed a day off... completely off and away from the homestead. We stocked up the chicks and ducks on their feed and water and packed some food and off we went with Spot for the ocean. The weather forcast had proclaimed thundershowers, but God knew better. It was an absolutely glorious day again. Breezy and warm and clear sky... we had lots of fun. We started out over in Rye, NH and worked our way over to Maine. We ate lunch at the Seacoast Science Center. We saw some old forts, including Ft. McCleary (they allowed dogs on leashes there) and then because we had Spot with us we went to York Beach (one of the few public beaches where they will allow dogs). We found out that Spot does not care for the salt water. She did like the sand and running around growling and barking at other dogs acting ferocious. We know she's a tough little dog. She has chased bear up the trees 3 times now, once on Sunday morning about 2 am. Unfortunately there's not too much she's afraid of (or if she is it just makes her act tougher).
We didn't get back until 11:30 pm. It did rain a little on the way home, but was dry on our hill and then this morning I had to get up at 4:00 to catch the bus in town. I was tired, but not exhausted. I think that just a little time away once in a while is a wonderful gift from God.

These were pictures from Ft. McCleary.

See how blue the water is? Lot's of boats in the harbor since this was a weekday.

We traveled all around the 1B route and 1A down as far as Rye Beach. Then we came back and went across the river to Maine and up along 1A to York Beach. What a beautiful drive and so many beautiful houses... glad I don't have to pay the tax on them. Some of the older homes were from the c 1600. You could just imagine the stories those homes could tell if they could talk.

What a wonderful blessing the day was and the whole weekend. Even the little firework display we saw thanks to some backyard celebrations on Saturday night. It all was a gift from God to us.

Hope you has a wonderful weekend too.
