We worked all day Monday in the garden. Our poor vegetable garden was nothing but gravel last year with lots of sticks and stones. My sweet Doug brought in 5 loads of manure/topsoil to put into the garden to improve the soil. Then we rototilled. He worked on it Monday by himself and then got a great idea of attaching a pipe to the front of the rototiller frame so that we could work together. Our garden is on a hill and the tiller is topheavy and you can see the problems that might cause. So Tuesday we worked together tilling. I worked the maching while he worked at keeping it upright. We managed to get most of it done before dark on Tuesday.

I planted peas, chard and pole beans early. Doug worked in the rain Wednesday to put in the little beets we had started in the greenhouse and plant the Jacob Cattle beans. There's still lots and lots to do. We have many types of winter squash started in the greenhouse and also tomatoes, and many perennial flowers which will go into the flower bed at the end of the driveway. We don't want our neighbors to think we're uncivilized because we have lived in a camper for 2 years.

It is a wonderful thing gardening. I think it is good for the soul to get your hands dirty. We share this time together every year and it is the most peaceful time for me. Everything is turning green, the sun warms us and makes the dirt turn into mud on our faces... but that's what it's all about. Everything from the garden tastes twice as nice too.

Hope you all have a chance to get dirty this summer.,. then go jump in the river and cool off ;)
